Our Harvest Festival is happening this Sunday

How does an urban church in the middle of London celebrate an appropriate Harvest Festival these days? We do this by supporting the Upper Room, a local day centre for the homeless at the neighbouring St Saviour’s church, Wendell Park. It offers support to the most disadvantaged individuals in West London. It was set up in 1990 with staff and volunteers, and support from Hammersmith & Fulham Council.

The Upper Room is a valued charity, assisting many of the most socially excluded people in our community. It feeds and supports more than 150 people a day and helps them become economically independent and gain employment, with the assistance of a network of local partner organisations.

Here is our Harvest Prayer:

God of all creation

This harvest time  may we both praise and pray;
praise you for the abundance and pray that this harvest is not just shared but shared justly.

We praise you for the wealth of the harvest
and pray that this harvest is not just a promise
but is full of promise for all.

We praise you for the sheer wonder of the world and pray that this harvest is not about our wealth but the wealth of our generosity.

Amen
